Moving Day...
I don't have much time for a post today, the movers will be here shortly. Kind of odd to see 19 years of my life packed up in about 15 little boxes. I'm checking into a budget hotel for a couple of nights and then I'll be live-blogging my journey back to Peoria on Thursday. Check that out if you feel like it, if not, have a sandwich or something. Happy Monday!

You need to be a topic of "Jeremiah's Vanishing New York." NYC will be less wonderful without you. Happy travels!
When I left my East Village apartment it was after 30+ years of living in those rooms, not to mention the 20 or so additional years I lived with my parents on the Lower East Side. And when I left, because I had a stroke, my brother who understood what I had been doing all those years saved the manuscripts of my writings which did go on to eventually being published and winning the Lambda Award for Best Bisexual novel of 2009, little else was saved. What for anyway? Left behind four rooms of meaningless junk, clutter, books and other crap. Do I miss anything? Once in a while I awake and remember an old book, that's all. But you've got boxes and boxes of stuff, all clutter you're taking to a new place many, many miles away in another part of the country! Haha! Sure hope you're happy doing that and that you need it when you get there ;)
Anyway, I wish the best things for you! Adios, muchayo, vaya con dios...
Hey Marty,
Have a safe travels back home and hope to see you in the near future in NYC!
I will be looking forward to your new blog!
Take care.
Aw, it makes me sad to see this...best of luck this week and enjoy your last few days!
@Patty - I agree, that's a great idea. :)
call when you settled in.
Bye bye rent stabilized apartment indeed! No turning back now Marty, unless you score big time in the lottery. The very best of luck to you when you're back in Peoria man, and I mean that sincerely! I will continue to follow your exploits no matter where you go. Your loyal friend, Jaws the Cabbie!
Nothing more depressing than an apartment with your life all boxed up. Enjoy the last couple of days here. Let them be carefree and go out with a bang. Happy trails to you!
@Patty:Thanks, I appreciate the nice wishes!
@Mykola Mick Dementiuk: Threw out and I'm leaving behind a lot of stuff, but those boxes are mainly filled with CD's and books, some of them yours! Vaya con dios, pal, see you from Peoria soon!
@RayRay: Thanks, buddy! Glad you'll be along for the Peoria adventures!
@Goggla: Don't be sad, it's the start of a new chapter and we'll have a good excuse to have a party when I return!
@Sam: Will do.
@Jaws: Thanks! I appreciate your support, friendship and contributions to my blogs!
@Jason: Thanks! I'll be happy when everything is unpacked and put away in Peoria, that's when I'll be able to start my new life and my new blog! I'll be seeing you when I come back as a tourist!
Make sure you hug that radiator on the way out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUYt18UZG18
After consulting my eternal pub crawl list ... I've been over to your place 10 times ...... I wish I documented it with pictures - but I didn't :(
Hopefully your budget hotel has a little fridge to put some Bud tall boys in !
As someone who has moved well over 30 times in my life, that looks like a VERY professional packing job. Like, WOWSER, TRIPLE-taped boxes. VERY impressive!
Are you taking the coffee table? For some weird reason, when I think back on all the places I've lived, I might not be able to remember the color of a carpet, or even walls, but I ALWAYS remember what the coffee table looked like.....and often wonder if they still exist, and/or if they are still at the center of someone's living room social life.
And hey, I've just thought of a way to make some extra bucks before you leave town = SELL this here blog to one of the other NYCBlogMafia. Yeah, that's the ticket!
Perhaps.......Shippin' With Shawnie.........Whittle With Chittle........Poggla With Goggla........Flamin' Trannie Pablum........EastVillagePeev........Jeremiah's Vanishing New York Residents........It Was HIS New York.....One More Folded Peoria Sunset......Midwest Stupefaction.......Scouting Peoria........
Do it quickly, grab a couple of hundred samolas from each before the others find out, and give 'em ALL something to REALLY remember you by :+))))))
Have a safe journey, and as you well know......keep a smile.......on the dial.
See 'ya on the flipside.........SIP AHOY!!!
All of your fans are looking forward to reading about your continuing adventures. When's the best time of year for all of us to descend on Peoria for a pub crawl???
Glad I got to see you before you amscrayed! Best of luck with the move, and hoist one for all of us at Jerry's Bar. Cheers and beers!
@Al: Great tune, thanks for the linkage!
@GENE: I thought you had taken pictures in there, check your past photos. I'm in the room and there's no fridge! I'll have to get some ice!
@DrBop: One of my first job's was moving furniture, so I have experience in this. The coffee table is on its way to Peoria as I type this! LOVED those blog names, any takers out there? Thanks for the good wishes and SIP AHOY, my friend!
@Katrink: Any time would be great to have you visit, but I suggest staying away in the winter time, it can be brutal there! Great seeing you over the weekend!
@Spike: Thanks for coming out the other night, it was great to see you as always! This Thursday we will be drinking a toast to all of you at Jerry's Bar!
Did you find anything weird when you were packing?
Marty, this makes me really bummed. I wish you the best of luck writing the next chapter of your life. You'll be very, very, very missed here in NYC.
Oooooooh! I'm still sorry you're leaving, but I am TOTALLY excited for your live blogging journey back to Peoria on Thursday!
I love finding weird stuff when you pack!
hope it was a good time needed..
counting the days till you are within spitting distance:)
ya know that better things is my fave kinks song.. wait i pretty much think you did!!!
i'll go post that on my blog for luck for you...
Katrink is on to something ... we need to all start planning the First Annual Peoria Marty-Palooza :)
@csp: I found some old pictures and more importantly I found a bunch of cassettes of interviews I had done for fishwrap. This includes interviews with Jayne County, Legs McNeil, Jane Pratt, a bunch of writers from Rolling Stone and more. I found out a way to turn cassettes in MP3 files and I'll be putting these interviews up at the new blog, which I'm hoping to debut in November.
@THE NOTORIOUS L.I.B.E.R.A.T.I.O.N. I'll miss you and everyone else, but I'll be back to visit as often as I can, thanks for the good wishes!
@Meleah: Thanks, I just hope I don't end up in jail again!
@Gidget: I did know that was your favorite Kinks song, it's one of mine as well! Thanks for the good luck wishes!
@roadsidewoncers: That sounds like a great plan! Would love to hang out with you all in the P-Town!
Peoria Sunset? Now there's a thought...
The boxed-up, pre-leaving phase is quite surreal. I've carted books around three continents for the past 35 years.
Will you be documenting your budget hotel stay? I think at least some pics are in order.
Good luck with the move & the new adventures! Some low-life escapades please.
Man, I feel like a total sunuvabitch. I dunno how it's been a whole month since I last checked in here, and now I find out the three weeks ago you decided to move back to Illinois?
Well, I wish you the best, my man, although I am so sad to hear this. Even though I didn't visit as regularly as I should have, I enjoyed my forays into NYC via you.
I'm sad to know that should I ever actually make it there, the only guy I'd have trusted to be a reliable guide will be in another state.
Ah well. I can't say that I blame ya, and it sounds like you've had a great run, and more good times than most of us are entitled to.
I hope Peoria treats you well, and that you are as happy and fulfilled there as anyone could be.
The place looks strange all packed up! I'm so glad you're taking your coffee (beer) table, please post a photo of it in it's new digs. Bon Voyage Marty.
O.K. Marty, Stop!
Before I run a warm bath and open my wrists, stop posting goodbye pictures of things packed. It reminds me of when I had to put my mom in a full term (old age) home.
Now just go to Peroria as you stated you were, post something new, as you promised and cheer me up!
THANK YOU!
Been very busy with my Dad's heath problems but saw this post at the ER yesterday! Thanks Marty....for all the laughs! Glad i met you back in the days of Myspace! I wish great things for you on the next leg of the journey. Will tune in when you are ready to roll again! To good luck and cheaper beer! Cheers!
@onemorefoldedsunset: I'll post a photo of my room on Thursday. I don't even have my own bathroom! It's made for some interesting encounters!
@Isabella: No worries about not checking in here every day, I appreciate your monthly visits...there's a period joke here somewhere that I'm not going to touch! Sorry we never got to meet out here, but if you ever need a tour guide in Peoria, I'll be there!
@Lex: It was beyond weird seeing the place all emptied out. I'll definitely be posting some photos of my new home, once I get settled in.
@Lamont Cranston: Don't do it! I promise good and fun things are ahead with my new Peoria blog, please be patient, stay tuned and put the razor blade away!
@Professor Dungpie: So sorry to hear about your dad's health problems, I hope he's feeling and doing better soon. Glad to have met you all those beers ago and I have a feeling a road trip to Milwaukee is in my not so far distant future! Cheers!
Marty you will and stay my new yorker! Can't wait too see your moving posts! thumbs up!
Good luck!
Holy crap, I soon will know somebody in Peoria. Who would have thunk it. We'll send you care packages. "Send some NY euphoria to Marty in Peoria". SIP AHOY
Have a safe trip. This town won't be the same without you. All the best.
@RubenDutch: Thanks, my friend, I appreciate the nice wishes!
@Fat Al: Thank you, sir, I look forward to seeing you on a return visit!
@Uncle Waltie: Looking forward to those packages! It was great seeing you last week and we'll drink together again in the future! SIP AHOY!
@BabyDave: Thanks, I appreciate that! Maybe we can meet on a return visit!
It's "Marty Eve" today :(
Marty's last day as a citizen of the Big Apple :(
Safe travels tomorrow ! .... when does the live blog begin ?
Marty!
I'm saddened that I never got to take you out drinking. Bon Voyage. Let me know when you're coming around again and I'll get you drunk on my dime.
@GENE: Thanks, I'm heading out now to go to the Upper West Side and look around at where I started. I'll probably start blogging tomorrow around 8AM, yikes, that's early. I better start drinking soon!
@randall: I wish we could've met too. If you follow my new blog (it'll be going up in November after I get settled in), you'll know when I'm coming back and you can join in on the festivities!
Marty ... go to Malachy's !!!
@GENE: I'm stopping by there for sure, I'll have a beer and toast to the BBC! I'm heading out now!
I hope you are creating a post out of today !
@GENE: Nope, I'm off the clock till tomorrow, I'm having a little vacation. Although I did take a couple pictures that I'll put up tomorrow.
Hey Marty - in the words of Joan Didion, it's time to say "Good-bye To All That", but in the words of Joan Jett, "See you on the road " ! Rock on ......
Poetic Justice......I'm at the Sarasota Airport(SRQ) headed to LGA on the day you are moving. When I made the reservations 6 weeks ago, I hadn't a clue that you'd be gone....Bad, Bad, Bad. Bon Voyage, and don't break a leg
@Kat: Love the Joan Jett quote, rock on, my friend!
@Mike Hunt: If you're in the United Wing, look for me and I'll buy you a beer! Have fun in NYC!
And there it is - your life in a few boxes. Some may view that as sad, but as a person who is spending at least four hours per day trying to purge all the shit I've accumulated out of my house, I view that as victory! Well done, Marty! And, by the way, I never noticed how much your armchair looks like Chairry!
