We Now Interrupt This Broadcast...
To Announce A (Temporary) Change In Service.
When I started this blog back in February, I had just become unemployed and had hopes of doing this full time, either through someone backing it and helping me sell advertising or through donations, or maybe a mixture of both. I gave myself a deadline of May 1st to make a decision about it and today is that day. And the decision is that I don’t foresee me ever stopping this blog. I love doing it and have had such positive feedback, it’s really been great. A lot of people tune in every day and I truly appreciate the number of people following and reading TWM.
But...yes, there’s always a but...I really need to start looking for a full time job again. I appreciate those of you who have contributed, from the bottom of my heart, but it’s just not enough to keep chugging along at this pace. I sent query letters to a lot of editors out there about possible backing for the blog or folding it into their online blogs and got the usual wall of silence in return. So, what I’m going to do is shorten the number of posts a week.
From here on in, until I secure another full time job, I’ll be posting five days a week, Friday through Tuesday and taking off Wednesday and Thursday (with a “real” post on Saturdays, instead of the Blooper Reel). This will allow me a lot more free time to focus on getting a job. Once I get one, I’ll go back to a seven day post schedule. I might have something on the line and I’m hoping to hear about that in the next couple weeks, but till then I have to really start putting my big nose to the grindstone.
I hope I don’t lose too many of you doing this, I’ve really appreciated the number of people who come here daily and I thank you all for reading. And I really want to thank those of you who leave comments here, sometimes the comments section starts a life of its own and I appreciate the commenters for being so loyal!
Okay, I’m off to look at the want ads, post my resume online and bug people on LinkedIn! I’ll see you this Friday for the weekly happy hour and update you on my looking for work status! As always, thanks for reading and stopping by TWM!

I need a job,
I’m out of work.

When a man tells you that he got rich through hard work, ask him: 'Whose?'
~Don Marquis
Best of luck my friend, I know you'll make it. I've been a bit quiet this past week or so doing the usual editing and that's a real pain in my kiska, but I have to do it the same as you. So hang in there, buddy, we're all the same boat ;)

Hey Marty, before you check out this video...well...I'm really, really sorry, but the fiend in me just couldn't resist...(snort, chuckle)!
@csp: Thanks! Quite the appropriate video!
@Bobby D: Thanks for the loyalty, hopefully I'll be gainfully employed again soon and we'll be back to seven days a week here.
@GENE: Ha ha ha! Perfect quote!
@Mykola Mick Demetiuk: Thanks Mick, nice to see you back here! Good luck with the editing and check back on Friday if you can!
@Jaws: Ha ha ha! Luckily I'm not busted yet, that's why I need to start looking now!
I know you will succeed in finding a job,,,I couldn't resist this line by Drew Carey, “Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.”
We'll still be here when you get back, Marty. Good luck, or as we say in the Spanish theatre, "mucha mierda"!
You will prevail Martster:)
I have the utmost faith in you!
and your people and your blog will wait for you!
@Al: Ha ha ha! That's a great Drew Carey line! And we can all meet this Friday for the happy hour post!
@Katrink: Muchas gracias, agradezco la lealtad!
@Gidget: Thanks, Gidget, I have something on the line and I'm really hoping it happens soon!
Nothing could ever deter me from reading your wonderful stories and adventures!!! If you need any help with anything, let me know!!!! Always here to help! All of the best luck in ALL of your endeavors!!
Good luck Daddio!
It's all going to work out.
Sorry we keep missing on our 'phone tag'.
I have been in classes.
(my penance for shipping my career out of the country after 36 years)
But it's something I actually enjoy and things aren't as bad as they sometimes seem.
Hang in there brother.
TALK SOON!
I'm planning on winning the Mega Millions tonight, so no worries!
P.S. Cool animator!
Best of luck Marty. I'll continue to follow the blog.
@Lindsay: Thanks, Lindsay! I'm hoping for something to come through in the next week or so, keep your fingers crossed and I'll keep my eyeballs crossed!
@"Boris:" Thanks, brother, I appreciate the support and all the help you've given me through all the blogs and this one will be back up to speed, hopefully sooner than later! And yes, let's yak soon, Daddio!
@Biff: I'm planning on winning too, so we'll split the jackpot! And yes, the Two Foto Animator is very cool, I hope everyone checks it out. Joe just made his goal today, but you can continue to contribute and receive cool prizes in exchange. Everyone wins!
@Jason: Thanks, Jason, I appreciate the support and your guest starring posts!
No worries ... do what 'cha gotta' do ... we'll all still be here no matter what.

However, you have to provide your Bio-Chemical suit. Future tax write off?
Big nose to the grindstone..... you'll sniff out a job. Thank You for sharing all your trips in New York... I know you have been in New York for twenty years but I always feel like your still in Peoria (on a much larger larger scale)....with your daily blog. Let me know if you need ANYTHING... We are always here and I will keep my eyes crossed for you
Five days a week will still be great, & I know you'll land that job shortly. And any number of people are ready to chip in to buy the blogger drinks & (slightly scary looking) cheeseburgers. But the Kings Highway idea? Brilliant!
@roadsidewonders: "Maybe the King's Highway Cinema has a literary-artist-in-residence program :)" Ha ha ha! I"ll have to look in to that and I've just promoted you to President of the MWAS!
@Duncester: Now you're talking, maybe I won't have to start sending out resumes after all!
@tehennessey: I have a couple things cooking that I hope to come through, but if they don't, luckily I've got savings and will be fine for a while. Something will turn up! But in case it doesn't, I do know how to scoop ice cream!
@onemorefoldedsunset: I figure I'd rather do five quality ones than have seven and some of them just be duds. And now I'm half tempted to go out and apply for a job at Kings Highway!
Gotta have my daily dose of Wombacher.
Best of luck on the job search. Don't take the ice cream scooper gig, you'll wind up like James Spader on that Seinfeld episode - wigging out stepping into the freezer and throwing scoops of ice cream at people.
@DaveW: The daily dose is just going to be five days a week for a bit, but I'd rather do five good ones, than seven mediocre ones! Thanks for the support and I forgot all about that Seinfled episode, I have to go look for that on YouTube now! See you on Friday!
Marty, hang in there man!
For a long while now, I've been crossing my fingers it all falls into place for you, and I really hope lady luck delivers you into a great situation where you can continue to do your awesome blog.
Reading your posts makes me want to move to NYC. Wait, I live here. But still, seeing your posts makes me want to go out and give NY a big hug. From Bill's Gay Nineties to the record stores, Saturday Night Cheeseburger, to Ruby's Coney Island, the swizzle stick sleuthing, and last but not least the infamous CHILLMASTER - it's been a thrill and privilege to watch your life's journey.
Thank you for inviting me out with you, and here's to many more adventures. Why the fuck not?
Avid reader and friend,
Shawn
Good luck on your job search, Marty. Your blog is on my book marks bar, which means you're only one click away. Sip Ahoy.
Good Luck Marty !
You should take a spy camera with you & blog your interviews & then after interview ask to use bath room & rate there bathroom against there interview , 1 Flush = This Interview went bad before it began, need to Fush It !, 2 Flush = The interviewer is Younger then Me & talks to much shit, needs to wipe his mouth,, 3 Flush = Wow I think they like Me, etc ! It would be funny to see if a bad interview had a disgusting toilet !
Rock on, Marty. I'll write you a reference if you need one! I can make something up.
I am rooting for you Marty. I appreciate the uopdate and will remain a loyal follower of TWM.
Bona fortuna, Marty! We are all pulling for ya'. After you interview, it might be helpful to leave a note or send a letter of thanks. It worked for me once. Then I became a civil servant of NY State for far too many years. And some of my neurons still can bridge the synapses!
First of all...bonne chance on the job hunt.
Second of all...I just learned you had your own Wikipedia page. You might be the only person I converse with who has their own Wikipedia entry.
Third of all...based on your own Wikipedia entry, I had no idea that you were a latter day Alfred E. Newman or Sylvester P. Smythe
I'm in it for the long haul as long as you don't go changing your URL address to throw me off the scent.
@Shawn: Thanks for the kind words and the friendships! Been great having you along on some of the adventures and there will be many more! I look forward to therm!
@Uncle Waltie: Thanks Uncle Waltie and it good know I'm on your book marks bar, but we need to meet in another kind of bar! Sip Ahoy!
@JHwang: Thank you! Good idea about the interviews! I'm hoping that I can get some to try the bathroom rating out!
@Clacky: Thanks, mate! I can use all the references I can get, be sure to throw something in about cheeseburgers for me!
@Tiki Bar Susie: Thanks TSB! And I appreciate the loyalty! I'll be back on Friday!
@Marco: Thanks so much! And I appreciate the note/letter tip, a very good idea, I've never done that and will start doing it from here on in. If I get a job doing this, I'll owe you a royalty!
@randall: Thanks! Too funny you found the Wikipedia entry! And as far as the Alfred E. Newman comparison all I can say is: What me worry? And no worries, the URL will remain the same!
Five days a week is what most people put in for work anyway - you've been working over-time! Too bad you can't make a living blogging, as this would be the best job ever.
Good luck out there - I know it's a scary time to be unemployed, but I am confident the universe will smile you you. :)
@Goggla: I hear you, if only I got paid overtime for this it would be the perfect world. Oh well, I'm still going to work on some of those editors out there, thanks for the good luck wishes!
Well, I was afraid of this, but obviously, you need to do what you need to do. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I'm sure you'll get something soon.
Hopefully we can meet for a beer soon. I'll email you.
Good luck!
WHA??? Your only gonna post FIVE times a week???
THAT'S IT MAN.......I'M OUTTA HERE!!!
WHAT a RIP........dude thinks he can treat his readers like crap......what an insult to those poor souls that he has PURPOSELY hooked on the dreaded drug called M...A...R...T....Y...P...A...R...T...Y
Doesn't he realize that for many readers the sun just ain't gonna shine.......FOR TWO DAYS A WEEK FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES?!?!?
And THIS is the FINAL proof that I needed..........THEIR IS NO GOD IN HEAVEN !
OK, OK, enough already.......Marty, man, you could post 3 times a week and REALLY hit those streets (or the electronic highway rather). I'd bet dollars to donuts you'd still pull in the same bunch of reprobates.....ooops, I meant sophisticated readers that you always have. Folks just seem to like checkin' out what your up to (yeah, yeah, "Well, I'm up to about 8 beers, what's it to 'ya? :+)))
And can you blame them.....TRUE bon vivants are few and fucked in between. As an earlier comment said, you do what you gotta do .....to take care of you.......and THEN you can take care of us. Thanks for ALL you do Marty!
(And have you thought of you, Shawn and the Chillmaster hittin' the boards with a "Chillmaster Living Room Roadshow".......the three of you onstage with a living rom set, gigundis sound system, boozin' it up, dancin' around, and Shawn's lady dressed as a Vegas showgirl slowly saschaing across the stage with big cards announcing the shot rounds and/or the next tune?
I'd pay to see that.............the whole show I mean......I'm NOT obsessed with Shawn's girlfriend.....I'M NOT!)
Break a leg amigo!
I have another Idea. After Your Interview You could check out the Local Bar that's the nearest to The Interview, & even maybe ask if anyone from that Job goes there, You might find out how are the Future People You might work for are. Could be interesting to see how the Bar compares to Interview & maybe why if it was Good or Bad, Job might reflex as to The Bar !
Good Luck Again, I'm sure You will Find a New Job since I worked with You in past & know You Have Good work Ethics , Even when The Job is Bad !
I guess I'm going to Keep coming over Here & keep Checking, Maybe a Miracle will happen & You Post something, or I will get too drunk waiting & thought a Miracle happen, but 2 days went by Drinking, Cheers!
Hang in there Marty! Best of luck with the job search.
5 trips a week from New York will have to do. I have been following since 365 Bars from Perth, Australia.
All the best
You're welcome and thanks to you & your commenters for giving me so many laughs and virtual trips in NYC! If it's in the cards, you can buy me a royalty drink or 10 if you let me do the same for you.
@Peter: Thanks and let's definitely get together soon! I'll be looking for the email!
@Dr. BOP: Ha ha ha! Thanks for the fun comment as always, amigo! I've got a few things swirling in the fire and hopefully one of them will happen soon. Till then I'm going to keep searching and please tune in tomorrow for the weekly happy hour! Thanks for the good wishes!
@JHwang: Good idea, I need to get an interview first and hopefully that will happen soon. There will be a new post tomorrow, followed by four more, so be sure to tune in then!
@sluked: This is just temporary and as soon as I'm settled in with a new job, we'll be back to seven posts a week. Thanks so much for following me since 365 and for chiming in! I appreciate your loyalty and always happy to hear from a mate in Australia. I feel like it's my second adopted homeland with all the people I've met and heard from in the land known as Oz! I hope to make it there someday.
@Marco: That royalty drink or 10 sounds like a great deal, even if a job isn't forthcoming in the near future! Cheers!
I hear ya for the tough luck with job hunting, but you're a talented and social guy, so I'm sure you'll find something for your career (btw, may I ask what type of job you're searching for?)
Perhaps you could start a kickstarter campaign for your blog! :)
Best of luck!
good luck with the job hunt, and I'll be right here, whenever you DO post! xoxo
@kim: Thanks! I'm looking for a night job, really anything, but my background is in printing and pre-press digital stuff. It's funny, I looked into Kickstarter, but they don't fund blogs, as far as I can see. Maybe I'll try it with a book down the road.
@meleah: Thanks, stop on by tomorrow, there'll be a new one up then!
All you need is your friend's two photo animator AND your lo tech GPS directions and you're well on your way to having a full array of apps for the low tech Ipad. Movies, GPS, what more do you need. Just put them a shoe box and carry them around and take them out when you need to use them.
@randall: Genius ideas! I need you to manage me!
Cha cha cha cha changes...
Whenever you see fit to update ye olde blog I will check out it. Thanks for the virtual good times.
dang.
As long as you keep on doing this a few times a week... don't ever stop.
@legitimate beef: Thank you for checking in and chiming in! There'll be a new post in about an hour!
@Dan: I promise you there will be updates from Friday till Tuesday every week and once I get back into the work saddle, we'll be back to seven, thanks for the support!
Marty - good luck on the job hunt. You keep posting and I'll keep reading.
