Happy Hour At Teneleven
Okay, it’s Friday and time for the weekly Happy Hour here at TWM. This week’s Happy Hour destination was suggested by frequent TWM guest star, Shawn. He suggested a bar to meet at that I’ve never been to called, Teneleven in the East Village which has a seven hour Happy Hour, from 2PM to 9PM, sounds good to me!
And here we are at Teneleven, there's no sign out front, just look for the windows and the red door to the right. (I have to confess, this isn't my photo, the first few photos I took got deleted somehow, I found this on Grub Street.)
It's still early afternoon when I arrive, so there's plenty of room at the bar. Carrie was bartending, but was really tired as she had closed the bar (it's open till 4 AM) and had to reopen it at 2 PM, so she didn't feel like having her picture taken and I can't blame her. There was a pretty and friendly woman named Malika who let me take her photo, but as I said above, somehow the first few photos got deleted, so hopefully I'll run into Malika again in my travels and you'll get to see her! Okay, on with the tour of the bar.
There's a nice display of lit up bottles behind the bar.
And a decent selection of beers are on tap at Teneleven.
Here's Mikey and Andrew who are regulars here at the bar.
A long shot of the silver-topped, wooden railing bar.
Peanuts!
A genuine Broadway Joe Namath jersey hangs on the blue bricked walls in the bar.
Framed art hangs on the red wall opposite the bar.
Malika (who's picture got deleted) pointed out this painting behind the bar. It's by artist James Quinn, who is the nephew of the owner of the bar.
And another James Quinn original hangs in the center of the wall behind the bar.
There's a lot of cool stuff here in Teneleven, but nothing more cool than this. Bartender Carrie told me that this is a picture of an autograph by Davy Jones of the Monkees on the ass of the owner of the bar, Evelyn. Evelyn got Davy to autograph her ass and then had it permanently tattooed there and this is a photo of it. Very cheeky!
At the far end of the bar is an entrance to another room in the back.
There's a small little bar back here.
There's tables and chairs to sit at.
Here's a shot from the back of the room and you can see there's a small stage at the front of the space.
And as night settles in, the candles come out on the wooden railing opposite the bar, nice!
And some of the TWM Happy Hour crew arrive and settle in at the bar.
It's kind of hard to tell who's who, with my unflashed photos...
So we all posed for one group photo taken by Carrie. From left: Dave, Shawn, Elie, THE NOTORIOUS L.I.B.E.R.A.T.I.O.N., Yours Fooly, The Duncester and Alvah.
And as the Happy Hour came to a close, I took one glance out the windows...
And hit the road and was homeward bound. Thanks to everybody who showed up, it was a great Happy Hour at TWM!

That used to be Mickeys Blue Room which was owned by the DBA guys, but never really took off so they sold it a few years ago. Hopefully Teneleven is prospering. Do you know if they do any live music?
Back in the day when I was actively drinking you had to be a nut or suicidal to set foot on Ave C, you would have been mugged or even shot in an instant. My how things change, glad you have evidence of it and doesn't look like a bad place at all.
Don't tell me, let me guess...the surprise link photo was taken back in the pre-Bloomberg days...
@Spike: It's a great bar and I do believe there is live music there occasionally.
@Mykola Mick Dementiuk: The East Village has changed dramatically since I moved here in 1993, I can only imagine what it was like in your day!
@Jaws: Ha ha ha! I think you're right on that!
Boys night out! Looks way more fun than girls night out. But I'm was a tad confused - you start your post with "okay it's Friday", so I thought this post was LIVE, but realized that it all happened last night. Unless I'm in a parallel universe or something.
The happy hour was at Ten Eleven? I ended up going to 7-11.
Good times! These OMG/wooo hooo-free bars are hard to come by.
Good choice here. Slightly industrial looking with the pressed tin bar top, looks good though. Funny seeing Joe Namath jersey up there,,,,I was just watching Tim Tebow interview and he's getting more attention than the starter Sanchez,,,,lol, those Jets fans already are into Tebowmania.
@Katrink: The night out was indeed last night, but I put the Friday remark in because that's the day I'm posting this. But then again, you may just be in a parallel universe, if so tell everyone I send my regards!
@esquared: Ha ha ha! I hope you can make next week's happy hour and that you enjoyed your Slurpee, were they half-priced?
@THE NOTORIOUS L.I.B.E.R.A.T.I.O.N.: Great seeing you last night and it was a great time at a great bar!
@Al: It's a good bar and I'm sure you'd like it. I've stayed away from the Tim Tebow mania!
Great looking place ... maybe I can visit next week. I didn't see any tv screens though :(
Seven hour happy hour, a dinner made up of literally peanuts, and deleted photos. Correlation?
PS: Where Davy began signing asses.
"Girl, look what you've done to me."
looks like a nice, no-nonsense bar, except for the davy jones ass picture! lol! thats too funny! great group shot at beginning and end! perfect surprise link too, where is that bar? lol!
Great looking joint!
Nice photos. Did you get a new camera or was the lighting just better on some?
Or a collaboration?
Maybe you should play 1011 on the Pick 4.
@GENE: There is a TV in there, check out the windows shot near the end of the post. In the center you'll see a bright box at the top and it's a flat-screen TV, it's hard to tell from the photo. I don't mind TV's when they're positioned like this in a bar, out of the way, so you're not bugged by it, but if someone wants to watch it they can.
@csp: I'll never tell! Love the Brady link, I remember watching that episode when it was originally shown on air!
@Bobby D: If you look at the URL of the surprise link, you'll see it says, "Happy Hour in Bangkok." No pun intended!
@"Boris:" It is a good looking joint and a great bar! Glad you liked the photos, it's the same camera from the 365 Bars blog, I'm just learning how to tweak them a bit in Photoshop. Yes, I'm a slow but steady learner! And thanks for the pick 4 tip, I'll do it!
A really epic night of fun and laughs. Thanks for hanging out. Having Bowery Boogie there was a cool treat. Marty, summer has just begun!
@Shawn Chittle: Great seeing you as always and a fun night and Happy Hour! Sorry I was a party pooper and left first, but I started at four! Look forward to next week's Happy Hour!
Somewhere Davy Jones is smiling.
Regarding the surprise link, one can only imagine what you get with the second drink. lol.
No matter what happens Namath will always be New York's greatest Quarterback - sorry Eli.
@DaveW: I agree about Davy Jones, he'd love that! And I'm guessing after the second drink you get some sort of STD!
Who's Joe Namath? GO BROWNS!
@Biff: Joe Mama! GO BROWNS!
