Mullanes Bar and Grill

Nice and empty, I'm finding that I really like going to bars when everyone else is working! It's a nice long wooden bar. Time for a beer!

And friendly David happily serves one up. David's originally from Ireland, but lives in Manhattan now. I wonder if he gets lost coming to work?

As you can see, the bar is well stocked!

There's tables up in the front by the window.

And more in the back. The bar has a full kitchen and while most of the menu consists of your standard pub grub, there's also some specialties they offer such as: Rigatoni, Chicken Saute, Fried Shrimp Parmesan and Lobster Ravioli.

They've got a large selection of beers available here.

Here's the beers on draft.

There's too many TV's in here for my taste, but at least the sound is down and they play classic rock in here, but the selections are diverse. Everything from The Beatles to Bowie, Elvis Costello to the Clash and I heard "Jig Saw Puzzle" by The Stones in here, a song I've never heard in a bar before.

Maryann was on duty as well and even took time off her break to pose for the TWM camera. Love that smile!

A long shot of the bar. Okay, time to have another beer and wait for the free buffet. See you in a bit with free food here on TWM Free Food Casual Friday!

Lost and Found

This somewhat Howdy-Dooyish looking fellow was down in the subway playing a weird instrument that was kind of excruciating to the eardrums. It sounded like a squadron of amplified bees flying into a zither. I gave him a couple bucks, but he wouldn't stop, so I left.

The good news about doing this blog in daytime hours is there's not much waiting for trains, like at night. As soon as I walked down, bang-zoom, here's the Q train!

The bad news is there's a lot of people on them. Oh well, it's only three stops, I can stand for that.

Well, it took a little longer than I thought, the train stopped twice for about five minutes each. Now I'm trying to get out of the train station and it's taking forever! One twist and turn after another! It's like that scene from Spinal Tap!

Finally I'm outside! Hello, Cleveland...I mean, Brooklyn. Okay, those that know me, know I don't have a clue when it comes to directions, I can't read maps and I don't know Brooklyn that well. I wandered around, asked for directions from at least six different people, all directing me in opposite directions and got hopelessly lost! One guy in a deli even told me it was two blocks away. I went there and there was no Lafayette Ave. So I went back and told him there's no Lafayette Ave. where he told me and his reply was to say I probably wasn't looking hard enough! Mother of sweet fuck! I may never leave Manhattan again!

Finally after wandering around for what seemed like an eternity, I stumbled upon my destination: Mullanes! I'm not sure what kind of a bar it is and at this point, I don't care. They have a free buffet from 5 to 7 PM and I need a beer right now! I'll post photos of the place in the next post.

Union Square

Here we go off on today's journey. Look at the big truck!

I love the Frostie Root Beer sign in the Chat 'n' Chew window.

The Greenmarket is going on at Union Square, let's go check it out.

If those were the kind of mushrooms I took in the '70's we'd really be tripping with Marty today!

Hot grape juice, I've never had that! First time for everything.

This gentleman ladels it up...

Are you seeing what I'm seeing? Aaaahhhh!

Alright, down into the subway we go. Next stop, Brooklyn! Sneeze you in about an hour or so, play nicely while I'm gone!
